Even in the case of trains, which have always been considered the most affordable mode of transport for long journeys, tickets are either priced through the roof or booked several months in advance. Hotel or tent accommodation has gone up to ₹10,000 a night or more. For a family of four, the cost of this spiritual trip can easily run into lakhs, which is beyond the reach of the average man in India.  

Many questions arise: Why does the government not subsidize the Kumbh Mela like the Hajj Yatra? Why are airlines, hotels, and service providers allowed to raise prices for an event that should have been one of the purest journeys? Shouldn’t be there a government cap on costs, and shouldn’t regulation of pricing be done for this great event?
